Trauma therapy · San Diego

Your nervous system got stuck. That’s what trauma does.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is one of the most studied trauma treatments available, backed by WHO and APA guidelines. It’s an active part of my practice, not an occasional modality.

What EMDR is and how it works

EMDR is a structured therapy for processing traumatic memories. The basic idea: traumatic experiences sometimes get "stuck" and remain emotionally charged in ways that interfere with daily life. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements, but sometimes tapping or sounds) while the client focuses on the traumatic memory, allowing the brain to process it more fully.

It sounds strange. It tends to work faster than traditional talk therapy for trauma.

EMDR sessions with me are structured and planned. We’ll spend time preparing before beginning any trauma processing, and the work is gradual and collaborative.
