Cost shouldn’t be the thing that stops you from asking.

I’m private pay and out-of-network only. I know that’s not the answer everyone is hoping for. Here’s what that means.

Session rates

I share my rates directly when you reach out. The initial intake session (60 minutes) and ongoing individual sessions (50 minutes) are priced at the doctoral-level market rate for San Diego.

Payment is due at the time of service. I accept major credit cards, HSA, and FSA cards.

If you’d like to use out-of-network benefits, I provide a superbill with every session.

What "private pay" means

I don’t contract with insurance companies. This means you pay me directly, and if you have out-of-network benefits on your plan, you can submit for reimbursement yourself. I can provide a superbill (a detailed receipt with all the codes your insurance needs) for every session.

Many PPO plans reimburse 50–80% of out-of-network fees, depending on your plan and deductible. Your insurance company can tell you what your out-of-network mental health benefits look like.

HMO and Medi-Cal plans typically don’t cover out-of-network providers.

Why I don’t take insurance

The honest answer: insurance contracts require diagnoses in your medical record, limit the number of sessions covered, and often involve significant administrative overhead that takes time away from client care.

Working privately means I can focus on the work, keep your treatment entirely confidential, and not have your progress constrained by an insurance company’s definition of "medically necessary."

I know it’s a real cost. If you’d like to use your out-of-network benefits, I’ll help you do that.

Your rights

Good faith estimate

Under the No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a good faith estimate of the cost of services before your first appointment. I’m happy to provide one. Just ask.

The actual cost of your care will depend on how many sessions we meet and over what period. Most clients meet weekly or bi-weekly. Most are medium-term — somewhere between a few months and a year.
